Why survey questions work in class

There's no wrong answer to punish, only a more or less popular one, so students who never volunteer for a quiz will shout out a guess. That makes it a genuinely useful icebreaker at the start of term or after a heavy lesson.

Survey Smash has no classroom-specific features — no rosters, no grade export, no student accounts. It's a general game used well in a classroom, and that's exactly how to plan for it.

Setting it up on the projector

  • Open the game on the teacher machine and share the screen.
  • Split the class into two or three teams with a nominated speaker.
  • Create a game with three rounds to fit the end of a lesson.
  • Let each team caucus for ten seconds before their turn.
  • Use the recap screen to talk about why the top answer was the top answer.

Question picking for a class

Stick to the classroom pack: school life plus curated general-knowledge topics like animals, weather, countries and sport. Skip anything about bars, dates or calling in sick.

Do I need to download anything?

No. Survey Smash runs in any modern browser on phones, tablets, laptops and shared screens.

Is Survey Smash free?

Yes. Every question, every game mode and every question pack is free to play.

How long does a game take?

You choose 3–10 rounds per game, with 30 seconds per turn, so a five-round game usually runs 15–20 minutes.
